Hey all. My name is Herb. I read about this somewhere today and figured I'd check it out.
I went to a Catholic grade school and high school, but started questioning religion around 7th or 8th grade. One of the priests in high school was pretty cool and, instead of flipping out or whatever, he had me do lots of research on world religions, philosophy, psychology, etc. Although I was an atheist by then, I received the "Religious Proficiency Award" at graduation. My friends thought that was funny.
I'm getting fired up again about all of this recently. Stumbled upon H.ad E.nough R.eligious B.ullshit and had to laugh. How appropriate! Anyway, I look forward to seeing where this goes.
The following is copied from my about me section, i basically filled it out for this group, i was unaware of ning.com before unchurched.
I'm a raging music fan who first questioned god at around the age of ten, i had the strangest sense of guilt for not believing. I lived on the edge of Ockham's razor for a few more years before high school. Now, in my twenties i see my self as an agnostic.
I have this deep seeded feeling that every one is agnostic, no matter what you like to think you believe you'll never be completely sure.
Hi. I'm a dog guide trainer and student teacher, as well as a metaphysical naturalist, atheist, secular humanist, blah, blah, bah. You can read more about me here.
Hello, all. My name is Kyle. Glad to be here. I just turned 50 years old. I've lived in Utah all my life (except for a year and a half in Alaska). Reformed Mormon, but I'm married to an active Mormon. (Don't worry, she's cool). I questioned the whole God thing early, and stopped going to church at age 14. I find most religious people to be good people, not stupid but needing something. However, I'm frightened by the fanatics, like the Westboro Baptist Church zealots, extremists of all types, those who feel all who don't agree with them are somehow less than human.
I'm looking forward to meeting and hearing from all of you.
I lived in AZ for years and spoke to so many Mormons.....met a lot of Jack Mormons too. We met children that had been rescued from Colorado City AZ...some of the stories we were told stuck with me in a large way. I found speaking to Jack Mormons very helpful..... and found many similarities to my experience as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
How does your family view you and your beliefs now?
well, im the youngest here, as a middle schooler. I never really went to church, or read the bible, so i only had a vauge understanding of it. I am now agnostic, and the only way i'll convert is if you have proff either way!
It is never to early to Question things.....you are ahead of the game. Do you discuss your views with your friends? Are there many of your age in your experience that are talking about religion.....God? Or no God?
Look forward to hearing from you. I am glad your here.
Hi, my name is Jessica. I am 23 years old and live in Denver Colorado. I am going to school for Mortuary Science, so you can imagine how much religion is brought up in my life. I do not get the chance to really discuss my views (considering the field and client base) so a site like this is just the kind of outlet I need. I don't think I will be writing on it everyday, but hey, it's nice to have right!? I was brought up in a very religious household and became an atheist at a VERY young age - seeings as my family hates that... well, you get the idea. It can be a rough world for us.
